At the end of the event participants submit to the organizers a list of who they would like to provide their contact information to. If there is a match, contact information is forwarded to both parties. Time-tested Secrets for Capturing the Heart of Mr. Right is a self-help book by Ellen Fein and Sherrie Schneider , originally published in A woman who follows The Rules is called a Rules Girl. Some audiences considered it useful and motivational, while others felt that it was outdated, anti men and antifeminist , or a how-to guide that teaches women to play games that toy with men. Fein married and divorced, and has recently remarried. Schneider has been married for over 21 years.
Another criticism is that because The Rules advise rarely returning phone calls and other such hard-to-get dating methods, some men may have trouble telling the difference between a woman who is genuinely not interested or not interested anymore and one who is genuinely interested, thus leading to misunderstandings and stalkers; not only for women using The Rules, but any man who believes all women are playing similar games even when they are not.
Proponents of the methods offered in the book point to The Rules as having positive results for both men and women.

But the matches these algorithms offer may be no better than picking partners at random, a study finds. Researchers asked about heterosexual undergrads at Northwestern University to fill out questionnaires assessing their personalities and romantic preferences. They were quizzed about things like self-esteem, goals, values, loneliness, what they were looking for in a partner, and how assertive or patient or creative they want the partner to be — and how much those things apply to them, says Samantha Joel, a psychologist at the University of Utah and lead author on the study , which was published last week in Psychological Science.
The researchers then designed an algorithm to try to identify what personality traits or preferences led to the in-person attraction using part of the data from both the personality surveys and the speed dating.

An amateurish comedy that sets up straw-man playboys to knock them over with the power of love, Speed-Dating seems designed to exploit the black indie theatrical circuit but hardly merits even a 25%(8).
Although I’d never been to one, and didn’t know anyone who actually had, the whole concept sounded so contrived and artificial, it couldn’t possibly result in anything but an awful evening and hopefully a hilarious story. As I walked in and scanned the room, my hopes didn’t exactly soar. Once the event started, the ladies were instructed to have a seat at a table with a number at it, and the gentlemen would rotate every five minutes.
As the first gentleman took a seat at my table, the conversation began instantly and I might as well have been casually approached by a guy at a wine bar. The five-minute intervals came and went, punctuated somewhat awkwardly by the whistle, which was alternately received as a surprise or a relief. While I wasn’t exactly feeling everyone I was talking to, I wasn’t having a bad time. In fact, at moments, it was even fun. Walking home later, I surprisingly felt like the night was a success.
The five-minute nuggets of conversation were perfect. Long enough to determine if you want to go out on a real date with someone, and short enough to exchange standard pleasantries with people you hope to never have to see again. There was no awkward exchanging of numbers, worrying if he just got your number to be polite, or wondering how long it will be before he texts.
You simply put in a “yes” and “no” online, and you get your matches 24 hours later. When I logged on the next day, both the “gentlemen” I had matched with had emailed me and asked me out on a proper date.
